IVF, or In Vitro Fertilization, is a process of fertilization where an egg is combined with sperm outside the body, in vitro. The process involves monitoring and stimulating a woman's ovulatory process, removing an ovum or ova from the woman's ovaries, and letting sperm fertilize them in a laboratory culture medium.

While IVF success rates decrease with age, women over 40 can still achieve pregnancy with IVF, often using donor eggs. Women in menopause can also conceive with IVF using donor eggs and hormone replacement therapy to prepare the uterus for implantation.

The success rate of IVF varies depending on factors such as age, cause of infertility, and the clinic's expertise. On average, the success rate for women under 35 is about 40%, while it decreases with age.
